Frequently Asked Questions

What is medical aesthetics?

Medical Aesthetics is a diverse area of medicine that utilizes a variety of minimally invasive techniques and medications to enhance beauty and mitigate the aging process.

Who can perform medical aesthetic procedures?

It varies from state to state but most medical aesthetics are performed by nurses and doctors. All medical aesthetic practices must have a physician overseeing the practice as the medical director.

Are the effects permanent?

No. All treatments are temporary lasting between 6 months to 1.5 years depending. For better or for worse, love it or hate it, whatever you do will not last forever.

Does it hurt?

The short answer is yes, a little. The majority of the procedures are associated with minimal pain. Oftentimes there is more pressure than pain during the procedure. Sometimes you can hear “crunching” or “clicking” as we work on the tissue below the surface. We have a variety of topical and local anesthetic that we use to minimize, or in some cases, eliminate pain. We also perform a range of nerve blocks to achieve regional anesthesia in the area we are working on. In addition we offer a medical grade CBD product in the office to help you relax.

Will I bruise?

There is often some bruising with all the procedures but it goes away after a few days. We provide a medical grade skin care kit from Epionce with our microneedling procedures and have a CBD/Arnica cream from HealMD for many other procedures.

Will I be swollen?

Yes. Swelling is a natural part of the healing process and is part of what will help you achieve a great result in the long run. Swelling is blood flowing to an area to help promote healing. You will often feel quite swollen when you leave the office. Plan on several down days after any procedure. Amy or Matthew can give you more details on what to expect for each procedure. Most lips enhancements will go down by 25-50% from what you see when you leave the office. It can take 1-3 weeks to see what the final result will be.

“I’m terrified of ‘Duck Lips’”

So are we! We are here to help enhance your natural beauty not distort it. We utilize the smallest amount of filler we can to achieve the desired result. Going slow and easy is our approach. We can always add filler but it is much harder to take it out. We simply won’t do a procedure on you if we don’t think it is a good idea.

Will I see immediate results?

In some case yes, absolutely! Filler and PDO Thread lifts are the best examples. You will see an immediate dramatic improvement. Other procedures such as Dysport and microneedling take longer to see the full effect.
